Recipe: Baked Pears with Caramelized Brown Sugar and Cinnamon
Ingredients 3 pears 1/2 cup orange juice 1 teaspoon cornstarch 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon clove 1 teaspoon sugar 1 tablespoons water 1/4 cup raisins 1 tablespoon brown sugar Preparation Preheat your oven to 450F. Cut the pears in half lenghwise and remove the core. The best way to preserve as much of the pear as possible is to use a melon baller. Alternately, use a sharp paring knife. Put the pears cut side down in a baking dish. In a small bowl, whisk together the orange juice, cornstarch, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and water. Pour the liquid over the pears and sprinkle the raisins throughout the baking dish. Cover the pears with aluminum foil and bake until the pears are golden brown – about 20 minutes. Remove the pears from the oven. Using a spoon, collect any juices left at the bottom of the dish and pour back over the pears. Sprinkle on the brown sugar and place the pears back into the oven for a few minutes to caramelize the sugar. Remove the pears from the oven and serve immediately. These pears are delicious with steel cut oats and a splash of half and half for breakfast, with a dollop of crème fraiche for a special afternoon snack, or with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
