Farm Focus: 18 Reasons Dinner

FullSizeRender (1) Last week, we had the pleasure of joining our friends at 18 Reasons for a Farm to Table Dinner. As you might remember from our recent farm focus on the subject, 18 Reasons is a fantastic SF non-profit working to empower their community to buy, cook and eat good food everyday. Over dinner, guests got the chance to ask Farmer Al everything they’ve ever wondered about Frog Hollow, organic agriculture, how to grow their own fruit and more. The conversation ranged from Al’s personal history to the challenges of the National Food and Safety Act. Al, the ever charismatic speaker was the star of the evening. But really the true guest of honor was our Warren pear. The dinner was a 3 course meal featuring, of course, our pears. Each course was more delicious than the next. We started out with a light and sweet pear toast with farmer’s cheese. Next we were served heritage pork with warren pears poached to perfect. These pears melted in my mouth and tasted like autumnal nostalgia manifest. And finally for dessert, our bowls were graced by a pear and buttermilk sorbet adorned with pear crisps. The sorbet had an incredible flavor – just a hint of tang immersed in creamy, pear glory. Thankfully for all you foodies out there, 18 reasons regularly hosts not only dinners like these but also regular classes on all kinds of food related topics. We hope you’ll get the chance to attend one of 18 reasons events. They also offer annual memberships, offering reduced prices on events as well as discounts at other 18th-and-Guerrero shops.
