From Farmer Al

Dear CSA members, Did I tell you the one about ol’ Clinton Smith, whose cherries were so highly valued and with equal confidence in predictability, that he was able to sell the whole crop in January…? This is one of those years when terroir fulfills its promise. Gilroy and other areas known for cherries got heavy rain last week, damaging up to 50% of their fruit. Here at Frog Hollow Farm we remained unscathed, with little rain and no damage to the delicious Brooks cherries that in your boxes. We still have more rain predicated in the days ahead, and then there’s the dreaded spotted wing drosophilia to control. This week you’ll also have our two newest stone fruit varieties: the Apache apricot and the Rich Zee peach. The Apaches were developed by Craig Ledbetter of the USDA Pomology Research Station in Fresno and the Rich Zee is another Zaiger variety. They’re both excellent varieties for so early in the season but just a hint of the great mid-season varieties coming soon. Please enjoy and we’d love to get your feedback on the first all Frog Hollow box of the season. Signature of Farmer Al
