After much hard work their vision became a reality when San Jose’s Emma Prusch Farm Park granted them a parcel of 6 ar- able acres. Today Veggielution is a boom- ing community farm, with a wide array of programs. They have an affordable veggie CSA for South Bay residents, as well as a weekly farm stand each Saturday. Last year they launched Cooking Matters – a 6 week cooking class offered several times a year in both English and Spanish. These classes focus on preparation of healthy food on a limited budget and are taught by local community members Additionally, they have also launched two successful school garden programs at a local elementary school. And of course, they host weekly work days where all are welcome to join in tending to and harvesting crops. Last year they had over 3000 people join in on work days for a total of 16,000 hours!
If you’d like to get your dirt on and check out the farm, please do join in for one of their workdays: Tuesday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:00 – 12:30 and Saturday, 10-12:30. Their Saturday workdays always close with a pot luck lunch!
In the coming weeks they are excitedly preparing for their big fundraising event of the year – The Bounty of Heart’s Delight Farm Dinner. The dinner will feature local ingredients and will be prepared by local chef Affie Ma- hini of Cafe Pomegranate. In addition to dinner, the evening will include local music, hay rides, a barn dance and plenty of fun. Check out their website for ticket information. All ticket proceeds will go toward funding their highly successful programs. You can buy tickets here: http://veggielution.org/bohd. We hope you can join in and support this awesome organization!
