It does not ship well when picked ripe.\n\nHere at Frog Hollow we still dare to pick this delicate fruit as ripe as possible to get maximum flavor, and the perfect balance between sweet and tart that this fickle lady gives us.\n\nIf your plums arrive too red for your tastes, rather than a ripe deeper purple, allow the fruit to sit out for a couple of days in a cool place and your patience will be rewarded! Slice them with a bowl of peaches and nectarines and serve for breakfast with Becky\u2019s cream scones! (Available via our mail order site at http:\/\/www.froghollow.com\/store\/farm-kitchen; not the CSA site).\u00a0 If they become overripe or mushy remove the pit and freeze them.\u00a0 They can be thawed and added to smoothies, or pureed and used as a syrup.\u00a0 (Just add sugar to taste once pureed).
