If you’re new to the CSA, or new to Frog Hollow Fruit, this will be a treat. Plouts are a hybridized fruit created from a cross between Plums and Apricots (don’t worry, they were hybridized and bred the old fashioned way, not in a Petri dish!) You’ll know the difference between the plums and plouts in your box by the size– the Plouts are bigger. They are also firmer, and sweeter. The Santa Rosa’s have the qualities of sweetness and tartness– a combination that is hard to find in today's new fruit varieties.

We are also proud to announce the second year we have had our own Heirloom Tomatoes here at Frog Hollow Farm. Last week we posted them on the website (www.happychildcsa.com) and they are available in 3 pound, 7 pound, and 10 pound quantities. We will deliver these lovely ’fruits’ along with the rest of your CSA, and we hope you take advantage of the goodness! If you have a big family gathering coming up and want to supplement your fruit order with additional produce, please go ahead and order. Our family has been enjoying the amazing salsas and soups Gloria, our favorite resident salsa maker is whipping up; Please share any tomato recipes you have and we’ll happily post them online for other CSA members to try out!

Deliciously Yours,

Happy Child CSA News

Having a hard time eating all of this fruit!? Here are a few fun recipes using plums and plouts, the following is from www.bonappetit.com/Amy Albert

Wrap with prosciutto; sprinkle with ground black pepper for an easy starter.
Layer with sliced mozzarella, fresh mint leaves, olive oil, salt, and pepper for a takeoff on insalata caprese.
Toss with nectarines, melon, lime juice, and honey from for a summer fruit salad.
Soak in sweet wine for an hour; serve over vanilla ice cream for dessert.

My twitter buddy Erika Kerekes, @erikakerekes, whose blog http://www.inerikaskitchen.com is a total gem , agreed to share this awesome Plout clafoutis recipe.
Ingredients-
-1 1/2 lbs ripe plouts, pitted and cut into chunks
-2/3 cup granulated sugar
-3 eggs
1 cup milk (whole or low fat)
-1 tsp pure vanilla extract
-2 Tbsp butter, melted
-1/8 tsp salt
-2/3 cup all purpose flour
Instructions– Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a pie plate or baking dish with cooking spray, Put the plouts in the baking dish, then sprinkle with 1/3 cup sugar.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and remaining sugar aggressively until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add the milk, vanilla, butter and salt and whisk again until well combined. Add the flour and whisk until smooth. The batter should have the consistency of heavy cream. Pour it over the fruit in the baking dish.
Bake the clafoutis about 50 min, until the edges are golden, the center is set, and the whole thing is puffed like a souffle. It will fall after a few minutes on the counter, but that’s to be expected. Serve at room temperature. No one will complain if you tack on some whipped cream, ice cream, or a dusting of powered sugar. Yields 8 Servings. Thank You Erika!

We depend on you to grow the Happy Child CSA! If you know anyone who might also enjoy the benefits of being a part of our fruit-loving community, please have them visit www.happychildcsa.com for a 4-week CSA trial membership.

[/print_this]

In This Week’s Box [box_list] Fantasia Nectarines, Frog Hollow Farm Santa Rosa Plums, Frog Hollow Farm Flavor King Plouts, Frog Hollow Farm [/box_list] [print_this] From Farmer Al Tomatoes and Plouts Greetings Members, In this week’s box, you’ll find Fantasia Nectarines, Santa Rosa Plums, and Flavor King Pluots.
