This is also the first week we are using fruit from another farm since May!\n\nThe Candycrisp Apples from Watsonville, CA are so fresh and delicious, if you\u2019ve had an apple this summer you probably realize since it\u2019s been stored in a cooler since last Fall. It\u2019s nice to have fresh Apples again.\n\nThis week I posted a pear canning link on our facebook page in the hopes some of you might try your hand at canning. It\u2019s not too late! I only made one batch of peach jam this year, but luckily we can capture the flavors of Fall by canning some pears. It\u2019s not as hard as you\u2019d think.\n\nJust a reminder that the wrinkles on pears near the stem are an indication of approaching ripeness, but you\u2019ll need to keep them unrefrigerated for just a bit longer to really soften them, if that\u2019s how you like your pears.\n\nEnjoy the Season,\n\nMelissa\nCSA Coordinator\n\n<strong>A Pear Affair <\/strong>\n\nMark your calendars for October 23rd, from 11 am to 3 pm. We\u2019re inviting all of our CSA Members, and their Friends and Family to come out to the farm to enjoy the orchard. Bring a picnic lunch, and we\u2019ll supply desserts.\n\nWe\u2019ll have some games for children, baked goods and farm products for sale, a composting demo and everyone is welcome to walk around and enjoy the orchard at this beautiful time of year.\n\nPears, Apples, and other Kitchen items will be available for sale. We\u2019re also working with local farms to offer you other activities in Brentwood for the Harvest. In addition to Family Friendly activities, there\u2019s also some wine tasting in the area if you\u2019re up for that!\n\nAn eventbrite invitation will be available this week so you can RSVP and give us an idea of how many people to expect.\n\n*event is weather permitting and no dogs are allowed, sorry!*\n\n<strong>Suggestions for local area fun after your visit to FHF for \u2018A Pear Affair\u2019: <\/strong>\n\nSmith Family Farms\u2013just minutes away from FHF, they have a wonderful Pumpkin Patch and farm stand in Knightsen, CA.\n\nJust before you reach Smith Family Farms, there\u2019s a museum that just happens to be open 10\/23, the E. Contra Costa Historical Society and Museum. Lots of old tractors and a rural farmstead to tour. Very Cool.\n\nHanna Nicole Vineyards has wine tasting just minutes from the farm, as well.
