The program is\u00a0an initiative of the California Department of Public Health with the goal\u00a0to increase students\u2019 access to and preference for fruits and vegetables. Frog\u00a0Hollow will be providing 11,000 elementary students throughout Santa Clara\u00a0County with a taste of our Warren pears.\u00a0In conjunction with fruit to sample, each participating classroom receives an\u00a0educational kit which includes a farmer profile, information on the variety,\u00a0recipes, a parent newsletter and other resources to encourage the discussion on\u00a0how food travels from farm to plate.\n\nWith nearly two out of five children in California overweight or obese and\u00a0only three of ten children ages 9-11 eating the recommended amount of fruits\u00a0and vegetables, we are happy to be able to participate in this program which\u00a0seeks to instill an interest in eating healthily and locally in our youth.
