Just a couple\u00a0doors down from BiRite Creamery, their gorgeous space is hard to miss. Inside\u00a0the elegant oak wood interior, they host a wide range of food related events\u00a0including classes, talks, dinners and more - all in service of their mission to\u00a0empower their community to buy, cook and eat good food everyday. In fact in\u00a0just a few weeks, they\u2019ll be hosting a dinner and talk with our very our Farmer\u00a0Al, featuring a 3-course meal featuring our pears. In honor of this exciting event,\u00a0we\u2019re giving you a better look at this awesome organization.\r\n\r\n18 reasons was started in 2007 when SF\u2019s beloved BiRite Grocery\u2019s dream of\u00a0having a community space was made a reality. The space, on 18th and Guerrero,\u00a0was already a community event space previous directed by two long time 18th\u00a0-and-Guerrero community members. They spent the next few years developing their food education programs. And in 2013, the organization's fate would\u00a0forever be changed when they collaborated with fellow 18th-and-Guerrero\u00a0community food activist, Sarah Nelson and her nonprofit Three Squares. That\u00a0year, Sarah organized San Francisco's first Food & Farm Film Fest. They two\u00a0organizations enjoyed working together so much that they decided to merge.\r\n\r\nSince then, Sarah\u2019s Cooking Matters program, offering cooking and nutrition classes to low-income communities throughout the Bay Area, has been an\u00a0anchor of the organization's work. In addition to the Cooking Matters program\u00a0they offer regular classes on topics ranging from knife skills to making vietnamese street food. For those of you eager to get cooking, we definitely recommend\u00a0you take a look at their calendar.
