We got about\u201d of rain, which isn\u2019t much, but\u00a0at this time of year the ground dries out very slowly, so we\u00a0won\u2019t be able to get back to our pruning until Monday. But\u00a0of course, we really need this rain, so we\u2018re happy about\u00a0that.\r\n\r\nThe really good news for us (and you), is the\u00a0cold temperatures we\u2019ve been getting. Our chill hour\u00a0accumulations are now well over 220 hours, which is the\u00a0best in over six years. If this trend continues, it could mean\u00a0a good cherry crop, which we have all been missing for the\u00a0last several years.\r\n\r\nThe goal is to get over 900 hours of below 45 \u030a by\u00a0the end of February. So yesterday, by about 3:30pm, the\u00a0storm had moved eastward to the Sierra Nevada Mountains.\u00a0I got on my golf cart and drove through the grass-covered\u00a0peach orchard that surrounds my house. The cherry orchard,\u00a0just east of an open field, was lit up by the setting sun to\u00a0a burnished bronze, glowing against the gray black storm\u00a0clouds and framed by a full rainbow.
