Actually, every day of the year\u00a0I give thanks to the beauty of this place. And each of the four seasons has\u00a0its own kind of beauty. This year the fall brings extraordinary colors to the\u00a0palette of the farm landscape. Apricot leaves are a buttery yellow with fringes\u00a0of crimson. The peaches are clad in gold leaves and at sundown they glow with\u00a0an intensity that evokes a sense of wonder in the soul of the beholder.\r\n\r\nThe Santa Rosa leaves are almost the color of their fruits, purple-violet,\u00a0shimmering in the afternoon breeze. And right next to them, the Flavor King\u00a0pluots have shed all their leaves, revealing the sturdy structure of their scaffold\u00a0limbs, and the cobweb fingers of fruit wood; quite the contrast to their stately\u00a0appeal during the Spring and Summer months. One grove of nectarines looks\u00a0like a copper kettle with a fire burning beneath it. And throughout every row of\u00a0trees the ground is clad in a carpet of green.\r\n\r\nPruning has begun in earnest, so the \u201ctree team\u201d is very happy knowing\u00a0that they\u2019ll have steady work for the rest of the year and into 2016. I can hear\u00a0them laughing and joking as I approach from a distance. And the \u201cground team\u201d\u00a0boys are weed-whacking rows of cherry trees, leaving the orchard looking neat\u00a0and trim! Compost production continues on schedule with six windrows (each\u00a0windrow is about 70 tons of compost) almost ready to spread, and 4 windrows\u00a0in various stages of construction. We\u2019ve even had time to clear weeds from\u00a0about 1\/4 mile of storm drain ditches along Highway 4.\r\n\r\nEven our winter vegetable garden is \u201csoil-ready\u201d to be planted in onions,\u00a0garlic, lettuce, kale, and other winter greens.\u00a0All in all, we\u2019re well-prepared and ready for what we hope will be a record\u00a0\u201cEl Nino\u201d winter!\r\n\r\nBest,\r\n\r\n&nbsp;","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear CSA Members, As rain approaches, followed by a dry Thanksgiving Day, we have so much\u00a0to be thankful for here at Frog Hollow Farm.
