Fruits and vegetables grown here abound in diversity,\u00a0quantity, and quality unmatched by any other region in California, or in all of\u00a0America, for that matter. Brentwood farmers could possibly provide the entire\u00a0population of the bay area with their fruit and vegetable needs if the food\u00a0system were to be locally organized.\r\n\r\nThat is a big vision! And it is embraced by BALT, the Brentwood\u00a0Agricultural Land Trust, its board and its staff, led by its Director Kathryn\u00a0Lyddan. Their work, personal efforts really, is foundational on three fronts:\r\n\r\n1. Protect the land-BALT has already secured easements on over 1000 acres of\u00a0prime farmland here in the Ag Core with another 1000 acres pending.\r\n\r\n2. Empower the farmers-\r\na. With marketing opportunities\r\n\r\nb. Support from improved regulatory changes\r\n\r\nc. Provide land access and other opportunities for beginning farmers.\r\n\r\n3. Educate the local Community\r\n\r\na. This includes educating local government agencies both county and\r\n\r\ncities, regarding the valuable services that farms and farmers provide local\r\n\r\ncommunities, betyond just the food they grow.\r\n\r\nb.
