A New Expanded Crop Report for Contra Costa County
Each year the Contra Costa Agricultural Commissioner publishes the Annual Crop Report. The Crop Report tells the public about the farming and ranching in the County the prior year. This year, Contra Costa Agricultural Commissioner, Chad Godoy, approached the 2014 Crop Report with an expanded vision.
Chad decided that he wanted to tell the bigger story of food production in our county. In addition to reporting the dollar values of Contra Costa agriculture ($120 million), the Crop Report contains articles about the cost of growing cherries, the benefits of native plants and the value of urban agriculture. An article “Agricultural Today: The Many Sources of Food We Eat” provides readers with an overview of Contra Costa’s agricultural diversity. The Brentwood Agricultural Land Trust has a dual mission: to permanently protect local farmland and to support the economic sustainability of local farming. BALT works closely with the County Agricultural Commissioner and local agriculturalists to promote local farming and educate the public about the importance of Contra Costa farming and ranching.
