At Frog Hollow Farm, we are increasing our role in environmental education. Frog Hollow Farm will now be offering personalized farm tours, field trips for students, and interactive workshops for people of all ages. For the last year, we have been in discussion about how to make this possible. We all agreed that the farm offers countless facets for education opportunity, from fruit preservation to pest management and pruning techniques. The question was, how do we utilize the farm as a resource for learning? This proved complicated to answer. Frog Hollow becomes wildly busy, making it difficult to balance visitors with daily farm activities. However, we are passionate to make it work. We agree that in order to strengthen sustainable agriculture in California, we need to increase the connection between people and their food. One of the best ways to achieve this, is for consumers to interact with the land that grows their food. We want visitors to stand face to face with our fruit trees as they ask questions and observe the farm in action. An educational trip to Frog Hollow Farm will involve a tour of our orchards, and then a hands on activity or workshop. Visiting groups will be asked to choose from a list of interactive educational activities. Options include hands on activities in the vegetable garden, a scavenger hunt, fruit tasting, a meet and greet with our chickens, or a simple cooking lesson using on-farm ingredients.
