From Farmer Al

Dear Members,

Last week I was delighted to attend the annual Board of Directors retreat of the Pacific Coast Farmers Market
Association
. This year it was held in Monterey on historic Cannery Row. PCFMA is the nation’s largest farmers market association, with 64 markets in the Bay Area, serving communities from San Jose in the South Bay to Vallejo in the North Bay. The PCFMA supports 580 farmers from all regions of California.

Our board meets every two months to oversee organizational and operational activities, but the three day retreat is an opportunity to brainstorm, dream, and create visions for the future. It is a sobering yet inspiring experience to be in a beautiful place with great people, and to just let your mind open up and your thoughts expand out into what is
possible.

So it is still with this experience fresh in my mind that I turn to thoughts of our CSA and its future. All of us here at Frog Hollow Farm are talking about the CSA’s future (and have been for months!) Yet what we really need to do is continue to—and increase our frequency of—talking with you our members. Please join us in the dialogue to create the next generation of Happy Child CSA.

As planned, we’ll be setting up in-person meetings in each of our neighborhoods and communities over the next two months, but we’d love to hear from each of you by email about any new directions or visions you may have in mind. I’m looking forward to meeting each one of you in person. And remember…our first farm gathering of 2011 is coming soon. The Blossom Festival will be held Sunday, March 13th.

Warm Regards,

Signature of Farmer Al

P.S. Becky and I will be traveling to Monterey again this week! This time to give a workshop at the Eco-Farm
Conference
at Asilomar on Friday, January 28. The discussion will be about “value-added” farm products and how to create and grow this farm-related business. Hope some of you will be there….[/print_this]
