From Farmer Al

Dear CSA Members – Insult to injury

So…rain destroyed 95% of our apricot crop during the bloom period! Bad enough, right? But then, first as we’re about to pick the Robada variety, the few fruits we did have of this variety got hit by rain again! So, you’ll get some, but they won’t be pretty (we use the term “cosmetically challenged”).

And of course this very unseasonable June storm also damaged our cherries, especially the Bings! We’re struggling to meet these challenges but the fruit still tastes good, so please enjoy!

The bright side…our Crimson Lady peaches were still green enough at the time the storm struck to escape injury. They are ripe enough to pick so enjoy them as well.

It’s at times like these that the true meaning and value of our CSA becomes most significant to us. Without you, our CSA community, much of this fruit would find no home in the marketplace and would be wasted. So thank you all for your understanding and support.

Peaches & Tango: A Dinner in the Orchard

We had enough people express how much they wanted to attend but the event pricing was out of their budget that we’ve separated the bulk of our fundraising goals from the ticket price.

Now for $200 per plate join us here at Frog Hollow Farm for an elegant evening of peaches and tango amidst our living trees. Your meal will be prepared by Top Chef All-star winner Richard Blais and is centered around local organic ingredients. Trio Garufa performs live music. Guests who have always wanted to learn how to tango can step onto the dance floor to enjoy instruction by their world-class dancer.

The seven course menu includes Beet tartare with candied wasabi, Chilled hamachi with fried chicken, smoked aioli and pickled radishes, and the dessert course will of course have a bit of liquid nitrogen ice cream.

Tickets available at http://peachesandtango.eventbrite.com/ or by calling Jeff at 925-634-2845 x203.
