Farm Focus: Gloria Tapia

Gloria Tapia has a magic touch with all things en La Cocina (the kitchen). She grew up in Vera Cruz, Mexico and started cooking with her Mother at a young age. Her mother taught her a love of cooking and an appreciation for the art of the kitchen. When she arrived in the United States in 1993 she was well versed in preparing many dishes from her home region, as well as from her husband’s native Oaxaca. With a kind and gentle demeanor, Gloria lends her magic touch to most everything in the Frog Hollow Farm Kitchen. Her help was instrumental in building our farm kitchen business. Gloria has worked along side of Becky since the first days of kitchen experimentation when the cooking happened in the garage! Becky was quick to realize Gloria’s talent and taught her the techniques she needed to know to prepare all of the conserves, pastries, and other goodies that come out of our kitchen.

Becky and Farmer Al will be quick to tell you that Gloria is one of the most important people on the farm because she is also an extension of the Courchesne family. She is much loved and respected. Gloria has helped care for Millie and Maddie since they were babies and is instrumental in keeping a bit of sanity in a super busy household. She has plenty of experience in juggling the demands of work and family. Gloria is the mother to two sons and two daughters. Freddie, her eldest is a FHF packing shed specialist. He runs the computerized packing line and is adept in the technical demands his job entails. Violeta and Gardenia both worked in the office and as packers. Gardenia just left for Grenada, Spain for a yearlong study abroad program. Gloria is very happy for her and very proud. The youngest, Luis (12) is an excellent student. Farmer Al describes her children as extremely intelligent and gifted.

Farmer Al and Becky have plans to create a line of kitchen products featuring Gloria’s recipes. Farmer Al raves about her salsa. She’s been busy putting all those amazing tomatoes we’ve grown, as well as a beautiful pepper patch to good use. Keep an eye out for Gloria’s Oaxacan Salsa. You won’t want to miss it!

Gloria’s favorite thing to do in the Frog Hollow Kitchen is to make pastries. Her favorite orchard fruits are the white peaches and her favorite farm kitchen product is the risotto tartlette. You may want to Add-On a few risotto tartlettes for your family to try so you can experience Gloria’s magic touch.
