Farm Focus: Meet Shannon Hughes!

Shannon is a long time CSA member at our San Francisco, Noe Valley site. She and her family have been enjoying their share for three and a half years.

Shannon initially became interested in Community Supported Agriculture because she needed a change. She was in a rut with her cooking and wanted to reconnect with the holistic, seasonal eating style of her Italian ancestors. Growing up, her family grew food in their back garden and relished cooking flavorful, nourishing meals for their family and community. Feeding friends and family was always an important and beloved tradition.

Joining our CSA felt like a natural way to reconnect with this heritage. Shannon brings these traditions to life by feeding her family high quality, nutritious food and taking time to make wholesome and delicious family meals.

Apart from the delicious fruit, The Hughes family’s favorite part of the CSA is our members-only events at the farm. She shared a lovely story about their first time out on the farm. It was a summer event. At one point, Shannon’s husband went out into the orchard while she stayed back with one of their children. A few moments later, she looked over to see her husband rushing back to her. “You gotta see this” he says, “you’re going to be in Heaven.” And sure enough, she was! Once she got into the orchard, all she could see were bright branches, heavy with fruit and colors that seemed to go on forever.

When Shannon’s not working, she loves to read, get outside and of course, cook. Make sure to check out Shannon’s delicious and easy fruit compote recipe in this week’s newsletter.

Thanks Shannon for being such a great member of our community!
