Farm Focus: Meet Debbie Kundrat!

Debbie is a longtime member of our CSA as well as the host of our Mountain View Cuesta Park pick up. As a special thanks for all she’s done to support our farm, we’ve decided to feature her in our newsletter this week.

Debbie was first introduced to Frog Hollow one fateful winter day at a tasting event with Farmer Al. She knew she’d found something special when she tried what she described as the best oranges and grapefruit ever.

She was excited to find fruit that reminded her of the fresh, flavorful produce she was used to, growing up on a ranch in Colorado. Her family raised cattle as well as grew corn and hay. She remembers always having a big garden and sinking her teeth in to the best sweet corn every summer. Feeling connected to where her food comes from and knowing she’s getting the best produce she can is very important to her, which made joining a Community Supported Agriculture program a no- brainer.

Now, she and her family have been members of Happy Child CSA for a whop- ping 8 years. Her daughter grew up eating Frog Hollow fruit. As a little girl, she just adored apriums. So much so, that Debbie and her husband took to calling just about every piece of fruit an aprium to make them more tantalizing to her.

Debbie and her family are really partial to stone fruit, but every year they look forward to the pears as well. Debbie’s favorite way to enjoy the pears in her box is to bake them with cream and eat them for dessert. If that sounds like music to your ears, you’re in luck because we’ve included the recipe in this week’s newsletter!

When Debbie’s not busy taking care of her family or volunteering, she likes to cycle and ski. She’s also a lover of floral arranging. She has a floral design cer- tificate and occasionally teaches classes. In the fall months, she loves to use the pomegranates and persimmons that come in her CSA box in wreaths and floral decorations.

Thanks again Debbie for being such a great member of our community. Our CSA is only as awesome as all of our gracious members and site hosts. So, many thanks to all of you who make our community just a little more vibrant!
